Many people took for granted that, after the awards season, Karla Sofía Gascón would not have another leading role in the cinema, however, since December 2024 it is known that she will star in a film based on the story of an Argentine author.
According to what was reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Spanish actress will be the protagonist of the adaptation of the novel “Las malas” by writer Camila Sosa Villada.
Armando Bó will be the director of the film starring Karla Sofía Gascón, who is known for having won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the film “Birdman” in 2015. He also co-wrote the screenplay for this new production with the writer and journalist Josefina Licitra.

The plot of “Las malas” (2019) focuses on a young woman named Camila, who joins a group of transgender sex workers led by her aunt Encarna. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she finds an abandoned baby and decides to take care of it, unaware that this decision will put everyone around her in danger.
This is the first book written by Camila Sosa Villada, where she began to capture part of her experiences as a trans woman and also as a sex worker. It is a mix of autofiction and magical realism.
