The renowned NBA player, Jimmy Butler, was sued for allegedly not paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damages and unpaid rent for his house in Florida.
Five Star Marketing, which owns the property in question in Miami, filed the civil lawsuit against Butler in the 11th Circuit Court in Florida last week, alleging that the NBA star failed to pay two months of rent for his property in Miami, amounting to $130,000 per month.
How much money is Jimmy Butler being sued for?
According to an initial report by local news station WSVN-TV, last Friday, February 28, the 35-year-old basketball player is being sued by the Florida company Five Star Marketing and Promotions, Inc. for $260,000 in unpaid rent for a luxury house he leased in Miami, according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
In addition to the amount owed in back rent, the Golden State Warriors forward also left more than $127,000 in property damage.
In the lawsuit, the Florida company claims that Butler remained in the house even after his two-year contract ended in August 2024 and notes that Butler changed the locks on the house and refused to give the keys to the property manager, which prevented maintenance workers from entering and maintaining the property.
Among the damages listed in the lawsuit was the failure to maintain the pool, which led to algae growth, as well as the air conditioning system on the property. The latter caused a “large amount of mold damage” throughout the property and now, according to court documents, requires the replacement of both the wooden floors and the ceilings.
Five Star Marketing and Promotions Inc. claims in its lawsuit that the company “has suffered damages in the principal amount of $387,282” and, therefore, seeks a payment from Butler of $257,282, as well as the right to retain its security deposit of $130,000.
After falling out with Miami Heat management, Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors, who play their home game in San Francisco, in early February.
