Super Bowl pays tribute to victims of the attack in New Orleans and fires in Los Angeles

The celebration of the Super Bowl 2025 was paused for a moment when the organizers of the important event, along with the participating teams, paid a heartfelt tribute to the victims of two terrible tragedies that have shaken the United States in these first months of the year: the hit-and-run on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in early January, and the devastating fires in Los Angeles.

The NFL paid tribute to the victims of the attack before the kickoff of the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdome. The message was delivered by Cam Jordan, a player for the New Orleans Saints since 2011.

President Donald Trump, who became the first president to go to a Super Bowl, was photographed with members of the New Orleans police and emergency teams.

"We are a resilient community and full of gratitude for the infinite support we have received from around the world," said Jordan, a historic player for the Saints who has embraced the community of New Orleans.

Prior to the start of the game, police officers and firefighters held up a photo of each of the 14 people who died in the terrible attack on January 1, after a former US military member drove his truck into several pedestrians on the famous Bourbon Street as they celebrated the arrival of 2025.

In addition to these losses that affected the city, Jordan also mentioned the tragedies in North Carolina, Los Angeles, and the forest fires, as well as the plane crashes in Philadelphia and Washington.

Singer Lady Gaga, for her part, also paid an emotional tribute to the victims, with a video showing former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady walking alongside civilians and police officers approaching where the singer is playing the piano and performing the song “Hold My Hand,” which she presented during FireAid, the charity event held to raise funds for the victims of the fires in Los Angeles a few days ago.
