The Super Bowl LIX will be played on February 9th. This highly anticipated event in the sports calendar attracts not only football fans, but also those interested in the halftime show and in commercials created specifically for this purpose.

The Kansas City Chiefs arrive at Super Bowl LIX with victories in the previous two Super Bowls, so they will try to become the first NFL team to win three Super Bowls in a row. The Chiefs finished the regular season 15-2, tied with the Detroit Lions as the best in the league.

The Philadelphia Eagles improved their record from 11-6 in 2023 to 14-3. This is Philadelphia's fifth Super Bowl, following a victory in Super Bowl LII and losses in editions XV, XXXIX, and LVII, and the second in three years.

But before that encounter goes down in history, get to know these curiosities about the great American football party:

1. The first Super Bowl was played on January 15, 1967, when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers faced off. However, it was not called the Super Bowl; the official name of the game was the "First AFL-NFL World Championship Game."

2. Lamar Hunt, owner of the Chiefs and founder of the AFC, came up with the idea of naming it the Super Bowl, and that's been its name since Super Bowl IV.

3. There are four teams that have never played in a Super Bowl: Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Detroit Lions.

4. In addition, there are 12 teams that have never won a Super Bowl: Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers, and Cleveland Browns.

5. The Patriots are the team with the most appearances in the Super Bowl with 11: 1986, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

6. Steelers and Patriots are the teams with the most Super Bowl victories, with six, while Broncos and Patriots are the teams with the most Super Bowl losses, with five.

7. The closest score was Giants 20-19 Bills in Super Bowl XXV in 1991, while the largest difference was in the XXIV edition: 49ers 55-10 Broncos.

8. Sean McVay, from the Rams, became the youngest head coach to win the Super Bowl in the LVI edition. At 36 years and 20 days old, he surpassed Mike Tomlin from the Steelers, who was 36 years and 323 days old when he won SB XLIII.

9. Only once has the MVP of the Super Bowl been part of the losing team, this happened with LB Chuck Howley of the Dallas Cowboys, who was named the most valuable player of Super Bowl V even though the Cowboys lost 16-13 to the Baltimore Colts.

10. The oldest player to participate in a Super Bowl is quarterback Tom Brady, who did so with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV at the age of 43 years and 188 days, surpassing the record previously held by K Matt Stover, who did so with the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV at the age of 42 years and 11 days.

Super Bowl LIX

The NFL Championship game 2025, Super Bowl LIX, will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, home of the New Orleans Saints, with a capacity for 83,000 spectators. Originally named the Louisiana Superdome, it later became known as the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The plans were designed in 1967 by the Curtis & Davis studio, and it was inaugurated in 1975. Its steel structure covers about 13 acres.

The Super Bowl halftime show, a 15-minute musical extravaganza, is one of the most coveted spots on the US music calendar. This time featuring hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar, who has won 17 Grammy Awards and performed during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

Among the artists who have performed at the halftime show of the Super Bowl in the past are legends such as The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and Beyoncé.

Since 1970, the trophy awarded is called the Vince Lombardi Trophy in honor of the coach of the Green Bay Packers, who won the first two editions. Lombardi passed away in that year due to cancer. The trophy is shaped like the football used in American football and is made of silver. It weighs 3.5 kilos and is 56 centimeters tall. The trophy is valued at $25,000 and its design is by Tiffany & Co. After the game, the Lombardi Trophy is returned to Tiffany & Co. to have the name of the winning team engraved on it.

In addition to the trophy, champion rings are also awarded to the winning team. Each team member receives one. They have an average value of $5,000 and are made of precious materials.
