Trump causes a political crisis in Canada and destabilizes Justin Trudeau’s government

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won the election in 2015.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, won in 2015 and promised his people “sunny ways,” but a decade later his government is turning gray due to the resignation of a key Cabinet minister over a dispute on how to handle tariff threats, carried out by Donald Trump.

This Monday, Chrystia Freeland, Finance Minister and former ally of Trudeau, resigned from her position and threatens Trudeau because he is focusing on her resignation.

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada

Justin Trudeau is a former teacher and the eldest son of Pierre Trudeau, who was also a former Prime Minister of Canada. His son won in 2015 with the Liberal Party.

Trudeau has since been one of the youngest political leaders in the country and always acted against what Trump could do during the first term of the incoming President of the United States.

Although Trudeau won in 2019 and 2021, his popularity dropped due to false promises, a poor economy, and political scandals. In fact, a video of Trudeau with a worker went viral because the worker complained about the high cost of living: "You're not really doing anything for us, Justin," said the worker.

Donald Trump's hand in Canada

The Finance Minister resigned hours before presenting her annual fiscal report. In her resignation letter, Freeland accused Trudeau of focusing on "costly political strategies" instead of addressing serious situations in the country, including the warning from President-elect Trump to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods if they do not take action against migration and drug trafficking.

"Canadians know when we are working for them, and they also know when we are focused on ourselves," Freeland pointed out in the letter. Within the text, the former minister completely rejected Trudeau's economic measures.
