Kamala Harris lost the presidential elections in the United States in 2024, but there are sectors that seem to be engaged in her taking over the Presidency, at least during a transition period, while Donald Trump assumes office in January 2025. Jamal Simmons, former communications director for the Democrat, proposed that Joe Biden resign so that she can assume the position for the remainder of his term.
USA Today noted that although the suggestion is unlikely, the former official did not hesitate to raise it during a meeting with panelists on CNN. When asked what the most important thing the Biden administration should do in its final months, Scott Jennings, Ashley Allison, and Brad Todd responded with goals such as the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.
Simmons responded in a different way, suggesting that Biden should resign from the Presidency in the next 30 days to pass the position to Kamala Harris as the country's first female president. He emphasized that Biden has been a "phenomenal president," so he could fulfill his promises by stepping aside for a transitional figure.
The people present in the program did not seem convinced of the proposal by the former communications secretary of Harris, who had defended his idea, stating that appointing the Vice President as President "would dominate the news at a time when Democrats have to learn."
Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and the transition
So far, neither Joe Biden nor Kamala Harris have proposed that he resign from office. After the November 5th elections, the Vice President assured that there will be a peaceful transition.
Harris reappeared this Monday at a tribute to veterans at Arlington National Cemetery. This is her first public appearance since losing the presidential election to Trump.
As the president of the Senate, on January 6, 2025, she will be responsible for certifying the results of the presidential elections.
