The actor and director John Krasinski has been named the “sexiest man alive” of 2024, as announced by People magazine on Tuesday night.
During the TV show "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on CBS, the famous magazine publicly announced the selection of who has been the sexiest man in the industry this year, awarding the prestigious distinction to Krasinski, who succeeded Patrick Dempsey.
In the lead-up to the interview with the magazine, Krasinski joked that he hopes his wife, actress Emily Blunt, fulfills her promise to wallpaper their entire house with the cover. "I think she's going to make me do more chores around the house," he said, adding that "this will probably lead to some jokes at home."
Who is John Krasinski and why did People choose him as the 'Sexiest Man Alive' of 2024?
Krasinski is most famous for starring in the mockumentary-style sitcom called “The Office”, where he played the charismatic Jim Halpert. He also starred in the award-winning action series Jack Ryan and was one of the top choices to play the Marvel superhero, Mr. Fantastic, in the new franchise film, even making a cameo as the character (but from another universe) in ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’ due to his popularity.
The 45-year-old actor also co-wrote, directed, and starred in "A Quiet Place," a movie that later became a three-part franchise. He also created "Some Good News," a short-lived web series that gained great popularity during the pandemic.
In early 2024, he premiered his sixth film as a director with “Imaginary Friends,” a movie about these beings born in the imagination of childhood, in which his partner and mother of their two daughters, Blunt, also participated.
The actor confessed to People that his immediate reaction was "just a mental blackout. Zero thoughts" and that at first he didn't accept the designation because it seemed "surreal": "I never thought the day would come when I would be named the sexiest man alive and yet, the day came. Guys, you've raised the bar for me," he joked.
This year, People is celebrating 40 years of the cycle that chooses the "sexiest man alive" of the year. The first one was Mel Gibson and among its winners are Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John F. Kennedy Jr., David Beckham, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Rudd, and Pierce Brosnan. To carry out the selection of the male celebrity who will be the 'sexiest man' of each year, it has been reported that the magazine conducts an extensive study throughout the year of online comments, as well as conducting focus group discussions that then inform high-profile members of the magazine, and also consult some female celebrities.
