LOS ÁNGELES (AP) — The 2024 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees, two of the most popular and historically significant teams in the Majors, and also belonging to the two largest markets in the United States, met media and commercial impact expectations by averaging the best TV audience for the “Fall Classic” since 2017.
After the 2023 World Series that the Texas Rangers won against the Arizona Diamondbacks had the worst ratings in history, with an average of 9.08 million viewers, the 2024 final series rose to an average of 15.8 million viewers for the five games.
That rating represents the best performance since 2017 when the victory of Houston Astros over the Dodgers in seven games recorded an average of 18.93 million viewers.
How many people watched the Dodgers' coronation at Yankee Stadium?
The Dodgers' 7-6 victory over the Yankees in the fifth game to win their eighth World Series title in history averaged 18.6 million viewers on FOX, Fox Deportes, and streaming platforms, according to Nielsen.
This is the most-watched game in the World Series since the seventh game of the 2019 edition, when the Washington Nationals' victory over the Astros averaged 23.22 million viewers.
The Yankees vs Dodgers game 5 reached a rating of 21.1 and a share of 55 in Los Angeles. In New York, the respective figures were 14.8 and 39.
The great impact of the World Series in Japan
Thanks to the presence of Dodgers' star Shohei Ohtani, the 2024 "Fall Classic" had a significant impact in Japan, despite the games being broadcasted at 9 am due to the time difference.
Party 2, for example, had an audience of 15.9 million people in Japan and surpassed the 13.8 million viewers it had in the United States.
Ohtani achieved the first World Series title of his career.
