The 2025 NFL Draft has scarce talent at the quarterback position, the most important in football

Cam Ward, from Miami, is the only quarterback with the necessary quality and is almost certain to be the first pick for the Tennessee Titans.

The 2024 NFL Draft class was loaded with talent at the most important position in football, quarterback, with six players among the top 12 selections, including the No. 1 pick: Caleb Williams with the Chicago Bears. The 2025 class appears to be the complete opposite, with only one prospect having enough quality to be chosen in the first round.

That is very bad news for teams like the Browns, Raiders, and Saints, who do not have a starting quarterback for the 2025 season and could be forced to take a bet on a player without the necessary quality for the most competitive league in the world.

Who is the best quarterback for the 2025 Draft?

According to all NFL specialists, Cam Ward, from Miami, is the best quarterback heading into the college player selection process that will take place from April 24th to 26th in Green Bay.

That’s why it is taken for granted that Ward will be the first pick of the 2025 Draft by the Titans. The Tennessee team struggled last year with Will Levis and Mason Rudolph as quarterbacks, and urgently needs to find a new leader.

But when compared to the quarterbacks selected in the first round last year (in this order: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J. J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix), several analysts estimate that Ward could have been selected in the first round but not in the Top 10.

In his ranking of the top players for the 2025 Draft, regardless of the position they play, Daniel Jeremiah from NFL Network placed Ward in 8th place.

That raises some doubts about whether the Titans are betting on a secure future or they could have trouble with Cam Ward adapting to the NFL.

Who are the other quarterbacks for the 2025 Draft?

While Ward is the consensus number one, below him appears a prospect who has dominated the debates in the days leading up to the Draft: Shedeur Sanders, the son of the controversial former NFL player Deion Sanders, who was his coach at the University of Colorado.

According to Dane Brugler from The Athletic, who creates the most detailed prospect guide for the Draft, Sanders “is not at the level of his father, but he has the touch and confidence of an NFL starter.”

With Shedeur Sanders, a range of options opens up, which is one of the reasons explaining the lack of clarity prior to this selection process.

Many analysts estimate that Sanders could be selected by the Steelers as late as pick 21st, but others do not rule out the possibility that the Browns at No. 2 or the Saints at No. 9 could shake up the board and go for the former Colorado quarterback.

The other standout quarterbacks of this generation are Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss), Tyler Shough (Louisville), Jalen Milroe (Alabama), and Quinn Ewers (Texas). However, most projections place them as second and third-round selections.
