How did the emergency situation in Orlando happen?

A large ball of orange flames was seen coming out of the right engine in a cellphone video captured by Dylan Wallace, a passenger in the terminal.

“We are calling the firefighters right now, we see it,” pointed out a controller in an audio recorded by the website Broadcastify. The emergency services were authorized to go to the plane.

After previously reporting that there were 200 passengers on board, the airline updated the count to 282 in a statement.

“The Delta crews followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames were observed in the exhaust pipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines,” the airline reported.

No injured passengers were reported.

“We appreciate the cooperation of our customers and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta’s teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible,” the airline stated.

Delta will transport passengers to their final destinations on other aircraft while maintenance teams inspect the aircraft where the fire occurred.
