During a recent sermon in Colombia, the urban artist Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, better known as Daddy Yankee, shared an emotional testimony about a health episode that almost cost him his life.
The artist, who retired from music to dedicate himself to his Christian faith, recounted that the experience happened in Cali, just before going up on stage to perform a show.
“I remember here, in Cali, that I was about to sing in a show, and I didn’t know I was hypertensive, that I suffered from high blood pressure. That day, about to go to Cali to get on stage, I almost had a heart attack,” he confessed.
The testimony emerged as part of a message about his transformation and the commitment he made with God at that moment. “So, almost having a heart attack, and knowing that I was about to die, I said to the Lord: ‘Lord, if you raise me from here, I promise you that I will serve you,‘” he shared.
Ayala stated that that promise was the beginning of a change in her life. “That’s why I’m here tonight, because I fulfilled my promise and I am fulfilling it,” she said.
After his participation in the religious event, the singer of hits like “Gasolina” and “Limbo” shared a post on Instagram, in which he reaffirmed his spiritual commitment and thanked the opportunity to share his message in Colombian soil.
“What an honor to bring the good news to my beloved Colombia. I used to give concerts in stadiums, now my Father leads me to share his Word. God continues to be the best strategist in history,” he recounted.
He also highlighted the experience of sharing with worshippers, Christian urban artists, and young people in the process of rehabilitation: “It was an honor to share with so many good people, worshippers, urban artists of the Kingdom, but above all to see rehabilitated young people seeking Jesus.” “There were hundreds of souls for the Kingdom,” he concluded.
