Who is Jeffrey Goldberg? The journalist who revealed the attack plan on Yemen

The controversy continues in the highest echelons of President Donald Trump’s government in the United States, after journalist Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, revealed that he was mistakenly included in a chat where cabinet members were discussing an attack on the Houthis in Yemen. Pete Hegseth, head of the Pentagon, denied this assertion, but despite this, when the media outlet’s management asked the White House if they should publish the chat, the response was a “no”. However, they went ahead and published it.

But, who is Jeffrey Goldberg and what has happened after he made public the plan to attack in Yemen? Goldberg is a seasoned journalist, well-known in the United States. He is not only the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic but also works as a moderator on ‘Washington Week With The Atlantic’.

Before working at The Atlantic, the journalist started as a police reporter for The Washington Post. He then worked at The New Yorker as a correspondent in the Middle East and in Washington, and also served as a writer for The New York Times Magazine.

Jeffrey Goldberg and his extensive career

According to Merca2.0, the renowned journalist started at The Atlantic in 2007 as a national correspondent and in 2016 rose to the position of editor-in-chief, a position he currently holds. During his tenure, this media outlet gained subscribers and achieved record audiences, as well as winning the Pulitzer Prize for the first time.

After Jeffrey Goldberg took over as editor-in-chief at this publication, they won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence, awarded by the American Society of Magazine Editors, in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Not only has he worked in the media, but he also wrote the book ‘Prisoners: A Story of Friendship and Terror’. Additionally, he was a fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.

Among Goldberg’s recognitions are the National Magazine Award for reporting, the Daniel Pearl Award, and the Overseas Press Club Award.
