A new report from the Los Angeles coroner has revealed an important detail about the last months of Jeff Baena, husband of actress Aubrey Plaza, who passed away earlier this year. It appears that the couple had been separated for months before his death.

Last January, Baena’s death by suicide was reported after he was found unconscious inside his house in Los Angeles. According to the doctor’s report, it was Baena’s dog walker who discovered his body.

“According to the information reported, the deceased Jeffrey Baena is a 47-year-old Caucasian man,” wrote the medical examiner in the summary of an investigative report, which was obtained by Us Weekly. "He was going through recent marital difficulties and had separated from his wife since September 2024."
Baena and the actress were together for 14 years, they first met in 2011 before getting married in 2020. “A lot happened to me during COVID. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza recalled during an appearance in December 2021 on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We got a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s real, look it up.”
She added, "We were in lockdown. Things got a little crazy, especially at my house. My husband became obsessed with batik, and when I say tie-dye, I mean 50 shirts a day."
Plaza hasn’t spoken much about Baena’s death or this alleged separation. The actress and comedian made her first public appearance since his death after skipping the Golden Globes, at the SNL 50th anniversary special in February. Plaza, a former SNL cast member, introduced the joint musical performance of Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard.
While Plaza welcomed the musicians to the stage, she was wearing a tie-dye t-shirt under a blazer, and internet users immediately speculated that the DIY shirt was a nod to Baena’s own wedding attire.
