A case has shocked the entire community of New Jersey after a mayor from that state was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, as reported by the American portal CBS News.
According to the aforementioned source, it is the Democratic mayor of Lumberton, New Jersey, Gina LaPlaca, who caused a stir when she was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, putting her 2-year-old son’s life at risk as he was on board the vehicle.
What happened with the case of the mayor of New Jersey who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol?
According to reports in the media, LaPlaca was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) after almost crashing her vehicle. The 45-year-old politician was arrested at her home on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) after admitting to having consumed alcohol before picking up her child from daycare.
After being released, she received a court summons to appear before the court on April 28th.
The Democrat had been filmed by a witness, driving her 2019 BMW erratically with her young son seated in the back seat, according to the charging documents obtained by WPVI. In the video, LaPlaca is seen swerving out of her lane and nearly crashing into a utility pole.
In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol, LaPlaca was also charged with reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a child, according to court documents, as reported by the New York Post.
This incident occurred after her resignation as commercial administrator of the municipality of Neptune on March 10, due to the “political environment change,” as reported by Ashbury Park Press. Additionally, earlier this month, LaPlaca was kicked out of a municipal meeting for cursing at a woman.
After this scandal, LaPlaca’s husband, Jason Carty, issued a statement on Facebook, revealing that she has been struggling with addiction and is now getting the help she needs: “Millions of Americans struggle with addiction and never seek help. Gina LaPlaca is someone who has struggled and is now getting the help she needs,” Carty shared.
