ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The NFL’s Most Valuable Player, Josh Allen, was rewarded on Sunday with a contract extension that reportedly is worth 330 million dollars, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.

The Buffalo Bills announced the agreement, which adds two years to Allen’s contract and secures the 28-year-old player until the 2030 season. ESPN.com reported that the value of the deal includes a record-breaking $250 million guaranteed for the NFL.

Allen’s annual average contract of $55 million makes him the second-highest paid player in the league, behind Dak Prescott’s $60 million in Dallas.

Why did the Bills extend Allen’s contract?

The extension comes after Allen’s seventh season in the NFL, in which he became the third player from the Bills to win the NFL MVP, and the first since running back Thurman Thomas did so in 1991.

The new agreement surpasses Allen’s previous contract, which was for six years and $258 million that he signed with Buffalo in August 2021.

Allen has established himself as one of the elite quarterbacks in the league and has rewritten almost all passing and scoring records in a single season for the franchise in his position. In doing so, he has overcome the numerous questions and criticisms he faced for being considered an inexperienced and inaccurate player when Buffalo selected him with the seventh pick in the 2018 draft, coming from Wyoming.

The only thing missing is achieving the long-awaited national title for the Buffalo Bills by winning a Super Bowl.
