The Prince William made a significant visit to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, England, on March 5th. This hospital is not only the place where his wife, Kate Middleton, was born 43 years ago, but also a site marked by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was in said hospital where the first victim of the virus in the United Kingdom died in March 2020, giving the place particular significance. The reason for the visit was to pay tribute to “NHS Charities Together,” a charitable organization that supports the medical staff and patients of the National Health Service (NHS).

William, who is a sponsor of the entity, wanted to learn firsthand about the impact of the funds raised to help healthcare workers during the pandemic. Since the start of the health crisis in 2020, NHS Charities Together managed to raise more than $200 million to improve conditions for healthcare staff and patients.
Thanks to these resources, various initiatives have been implemented, such as psychological support programs, rest areas, and wellness centers in hospitals across the United Kingdom. During his visit to the hospital, Prince William talked with medical staff and volunteers, highlighting the importance of mental health care for healthcare professionals.
“Everyone in the NHS is here to care for each other, but the last person to receive care is the worker themselves,” the prince said, stressing the need for healthcare professionals to be given mandatory breaks to care for their emotional wellbeing.
Prince William Committed to Healthcare Workers
William also visited the Oasis Health and Wellbeing Centre and Garden, a space created to promote the mental health of hospital staff. In this memorial garden, the prince paused before the trees planted in memory of Dr. Peter Tun and nurse Julie Edward, two healthcare workers who died due to the pandemic.
William’s visit to the hospital where his wife was born was not only a symbolic gesture but also a reminder of the human impact left by the health crisis. Both he and Kate Middleton have been strong advocates for the well-being of medical staff and continue to support initiatives that aim to improve the physical and mental health of NHS professionals.
