As the case of Julia Wandelt, a woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann, progresses, new details have emerged about her behavior towards the family of the missing girl. Wandelt was arrested at Bristol Airport after arriving from Poland and is facing multiple charges of harassment.

The 23-year-old woman was detained upon her arrival at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. According to reports, her trip was destined for Cardiff, where she planned to meet with a friend. However, her arrest occurred due to accusations of harassment against Madeleine’s parents, “Kate and Gerry McCann,” as well as her sister Amelie and her brother Sean.

Julia Wandelt appeared before the Leicester Magistrates' Court, facing four charges of harassment. She is accused of causing “serious alarm or distress” to the McCanns from May 2, 2024, to February 15 of this year. The allegations include unwanted contact, unauthorized visits to their home, as well as the sending of letters, WhatsApp messages, and phone calls.
Wandelt is also accused of harassing Amelie McCann between January 3 and April 21 of last year, and Sean McCann between November 27 and December 29 of the same year. She is currently in custody awaiting a new hearing scheduled for April 7 at the Leicester Crown Court.
A friend of Wandelt, who is believed to be in his 60s, was also arrested on suspicion of harassment, but he was released on police bail. Surjit Singh Clair, Wandelt’s representative, confirmed his arrest upon his arrival in the UK.
Madeleine McCann disappeared in May 2007 while she was on vacation in Praia da Luz, Portugal, with her parents. Since then, her case has been the subject of numerous investigations and theories, without any trace of the girl being found.

Wandelt’s story gained public attention in February 2023 when she began claiming on social media that she might be Madeleine. Through her Instagram account, @IAmMadeleineMcCann, she posted alleged DNA test results indicating she was “100% Polish,” which contradicts her claim of being the missing girl. However, she recently shared new DNA results that she claimed showed a link to Gerry McCann.
Wandelt said that the results were reviewed by a “world expert” who compared them with DNA found at the crime scene in 2007. He claimed that experts had also compared her eyes, teeth, and voice with those of Madeleine, suggesting that “the evidence strongly supports” that Gerry McCann could be her biological father. However, private investigator Dr. Fia Johansson denied these claims, reiterating that Wandelt was completely Polish.
In addition, Wandelt posted an audio on his Instagram in which he tries to contact Gerry McCann. According to his account, he hung up the call after a few seconds, saying he must have had the wrong number.
Since the disappearance of Madeleine, the case has been under the scrutiny of the German police, who consider Christian Brueckner as the main suspect, although to date no charges have been filed against him. The disappearance of the girl remains a mystery and has generated great media interest worldwide.
