After two months in prison, the accused of murdering the CEO of UnitedHealthcare has broken his silence through a website created by his legal team. Luigi Mangione received a colossal amount of support after being identified as the culprit of Bian Thompson’s death, and now he has come forward to thank the support while he awaits his trial.

The website, launched on February 14, aims to answer frequently asked questions, correct misinformation, and provide updates on his judicial process. Mangione, 26, faces charges of first-degree murder with terrorist intent, denying all allegations against him.

What did Luigi Mangione say on his website?
In a statement published on the website, the suspect claimed to feel “impressed and grateful” for the displays of solidarity. “This support has transcended political, racial, and social divisions,” he expressed.
On December 4, 2024, Brian Thompson, aged 50, was shot in the chest in front of the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan. The attacker fled on a bicycle towards Central Park and was on the run for five days. After surveillance images were released, Mangione was identified and arrested on December 9 at a fast food restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania. A revolver, a silencer, and a fake ID were found in his possession.
The prosecution argues that the suspect used a “ghost gun” with a silencer and that the shell casings found at the scene contained engraved words such as “negar”, “deponer” and “retrasar”.
On the other hand, this Monday, Max premieres a documentary about Mangione, who is currently detained. The figure of the 26-year-old has sparked the admiration of many and the repudiation of many others.
The documentary is titled ¿Quién es Luigi Mangione? and features the following synopsis: “On the morning of December 4, 2024, Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare, was fatally shot in front of a hotel in Manhattan while on his way to a conference. The random and violent attack shocked the world and triggered an intense police hunt to identify and capture the killer. On December 9, the alleged perpetrator, Luigi Mangione, 26, was captured in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in a joint operation by the New York police and the FBI. However, as new details emerge after his arrest – including the discovery of a manifesto – doubts about the case only increase.”
