What was the financial support Luigi Mangione received from his followers?

The Legal Committee on December 4th initiated a fundraising campaign on GiveSendGo for Mangione’s legal defense following his arrest in December 2024. The organization stated in a post earlier this month that Mangione’s legal team accepted the $297,000 raised by the campaign to cover his legal expenses.

Mangione’s lead attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, told the December 4 Committee that her client “is very grateful for the outpouring of support.” from more than 10,000 individual donors.

People Magazine confirmed that the publication by the December 4th Legal Committee—named after the date of Thompson’s death at age 50—was authentic, but Agnifilo has not issued a public statement regarding the monetary support.

“We are delighted that the money raised by this campaign will go towards building the strongest possible defense against these insulting charges,” the committee wrote in its statement while claiming that “the average American understands who the real culprits are” in the situation.

The December 4th Legal Committee continued to criticize the terrorism charges brought against Mangione, who is 26 years old, as “fundamentally unacceptable”.

Before being hired to represent Mangione, Agnifilo said in a television interview: “It seems to me that there might be a ‘not guilty by reason of insanity’ defense that they are going to consider because the evidence is going to be so overwhelming that he did what he did”.

Mangione, who pleaded not guilty to the state charges, is currently being held awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.
