From the bench of the National Court, the former football executive justified his gesture by referring to the “great friendship” he had with the player.

The case of the former president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) continued this Tuesday, now with some explosive statements from Luis Rubiales himself. The former official is accused of sexual assault for the forced kiss on the mouth he gave to Jenni Hermoso after the final of the Sydney World Cup, and of coercion for pressuring the player.

From the bench of the National Court, the former football executive justified his gesture by referring to the "great friendship" he shared with the player. In fact, in response to questions from the prosecution, he indicated that he also exchanged similar kisses with male footballers with whom he had a certain level of trust and to celebrate significant victories.

What did Luis Rubiales say in his statement on Tuesday about his trial for kissing Jenni Hermoso?

Rubiales began this Tuesday with his statements in the trial he is facing for his kiss to Hermoso, which ended up costing him his disqualification as president of the RFEF and his entire reputation, even though initially he was supposed to testify on Wednesday. Rubiales was sitting at the table with Jorge Vilda and Albert Luque, two other defendants.

The former president began his defense as he had done on previous occasions, arguing that he had Hermoso's validation at the time of the kiss. As expected, the prosecution focused on that moment from the beginning, first casting doubt on his words, as the former president had initially claimed to have asked: "A little kiss?" "Little kiss and kiss are synonyms, I didn't remember it at the time," Luis expressed regarding this.

Then one of the major issues that underlies the persecution against Rubiales was brought up for discussion, a situation that would not have occurred with the men's national team. "You don't win a World Cup every day, you can't apply normality just because you won the World Cup. When there is a situation like this, it has happened to me even with teammates. I remember when I was a player at Levante, when we beat Madrid, it happened and on a few other similar occasions. But not usually," he began to explain.

“I have kissed a lot of footballers. If one of them had missed a penalty and we had won a World Cup, well, that would have been a possibility...,” she compared, before recounting that she also kissed a teammate from Levante UD when she played for this team, after a victory at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.”
