Just minutes before kicking off the most epic sports night of the year for the United States, with the Super Bowl, President Donald Trump has hinted at the team he has chosen: the Kansas City Chiefs and their star player Patrick Mahomes.
The magnate appeared at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, but not without sending a couple of messages before the grand sporting event that brings millions together in the North American country.
He is the first president of the United States to attend the Super Bowl in person.
Does Donald Trump support the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl?
In recent days, there had been speculation that the American president was leaning towards choosing the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, praising quarterback and three-time champion Patrick Mahomes a lot, but a recent message has exposed him.
"I guess you have to say that when a quarterback makes as much as he has made, I have to go with Kansas City," Trump told Brett Baier of Fox News during a pre-recorded interview before the game on Sunday. "I have to go with Kansas City. At the same time, Philadelphia has a fantastic team. It's going to be a great game."
Trump did not hesitate, however, to also praise the Eagles. "I am a big fan of both teams, they are a bit different," said Trump. "Philadelphia has one of the best runners. Saquon, you know that Saquon had an uncle who was a great fighter, a great fighter. Iran Barkley, he was called. So, you have a great runner, you really have a great quarterback. The other team, the quarterback really knows how to win. He is a great, great quarterback," he added at the end about Mahomes.
The president also had words of praise for his wife, Brittany, who has just given birth to their third child with the football player. "I have seen this great quarterback who, by the way, has a phenomenal wife, right? She's a fan of Trump, she's a fan of MAGA, so coincidentally I adore her, right?," said Trump. "But she's a great person. She's great. And he's great."
In a statement from the White House, Trump not only talked about the significance of American football, but also gave recognition to all the people behind this event, ensuring that they are America's pride and an example for young people who have dreams and hopes of succeeding.
"The coaches, players, and technical staff on the field tonight represent the best of the best in professional soccer, but they also embody the best of the American dream," the statement says.
Trump also took the opportunity to dedicate a few words to the families of the people who died in the New Year's Eve attack in New Orleans, where the Super Bowl is celebrated: "Our thoughts are also with the 35 people injured during the attack, whose lives were forever changed that fateful night, and our prayers will continue with them so that they may find strength, comfort, and healing."
Finally, he encouraged people to enjoy the great game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles and “may the best team win and God bless you, your family, and the United States.”
