Mark Zuckerberg continues to strengthen his ties with President Donald Trump. His company, Meta, has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. president against the company after it suspended his accounts following the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.

This is the most recent case of a large corporation settling disputes with the president, who has threatened to retaliate against his critics and rivals. It is also no coincidence that the agreement comes at a time when Zuckerberg, along with other major tech companies, is making efforts to curry favor with the new Trump administration.

Meta's relationship with Donald Trump continues to strengthen

According to reports, individuals familiar with the matter spoke on Wednesday on condition of anonymity to be able to discuss the agreement. Two of the individuals said that the terms of the agreement include $22 million destined for the non-profit organization that will become Trump's future presidential library. The rest will go towards legal fees and other litigants, they pointed out.

Last November, Zuckerberg visited Trump at his private club in Florida in an attempt to reconcile with the incoming president, just as other technology, business, and government officials have done. "During the dinner, Trump talked about the litigation issue and suggested they try to resolve it, which initiated two months of negotiations between the parties," sources pointed out.

Meta also made a $1 million donation to the Trump inauguration committee, and Zuckerberg was among several billionaires who had front-row seats during Trump’s inauguration last week at the Capitol Rotunda, along with Google’s Sundar Pichai, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk, who now owns the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
