The movie ‘Emilia Pérez’ has been heavily criticized for being accused of presenting a stereotypical image of Mexico and its people. The president of this country, Claudia Sheinbaum, was asked about the film, and she expressed the importance of promoting the Aztec nation “as what we are.”
The president highlighted that although she does not endorse censorship, it is important to emphasize Mexico's values in terms of its cultural and historical richness.
"We do not believe in censorship, we believe in freedom of expression, but at the same time, it is our responsibility, and it is happening, the recognition of Mexico for its history, its culture, its traditions," expressed President Sheinbaum during a press conference at the National Palace, as reported by Heraldo USA.
It was indicated that in 2024, tourism in Mexico had an 8% growth compared to 2023. "This tourism wouldn't come if there was a negative image of Mexico. It is up to us to continue promoting Mexico as what we are: a cultural powerhouse, without the expenses that were made before," he emphasized.
The president emphasized that Mexicans are proud of their identity and culture.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Institute of Migration (INAI) have a scheme in place in case there is any violation of the human rights of Mexicans who arrive in our country," stated Sheinbaum.
