The Chiefs will seek to make history in the NFL
No team in NFL history has won the Super Bowl three times in a row. The Patriots with Tom Brady won six championship rings, but only two of those titles were consecutive (those from the 2003 and 2004 seasons).
The Chiefs defeated the Eagles in 2023, the 49ers last year and now against the Philadelphia team they will seek to establish a never-before-achieved record.
To reach the NFL's grand final, Kansas City defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC championship game, which was filled with drama, great plays, controversies, and a high level of play from both teams. Only in the final minutes of the last quarter did the Chiefs manage to establish the definitive lead thanks to a field goal and the defense being able to stop Josh Allen's offense with two minutes left to play.
In the previous 28 minutes, Patrick Mahomes and Allen exchanged scores, setting the stage that was anticipated for this duel that has become one of the great rivalries in the NFL in recent years. Unfortunately for Buffalo, for the fourth time in the last five seasons, they were eliminated from the playoffs by Kansas City (two of those games in the AFC final).
Patrick Mahomes will look for his fourth Super Bowl ring and equal Joe Montana (49ers) and Terry Bradshaw (Steelers). The quarterback with the most titles is Tom Brady, with seven.
The Eagles are going for their second Super Bowl
In the first game of Sunday's finals, the Eagles crushed the Commanders 55-23 in the NFC final.
The Philadelphia team's ground game was unstoppable and they became the first team since 1940 to score seven rushing touchdowns in an NFL playoff game. Running back Saquon Barkley, one of the MVP candidates of the season, finished with 118 yards and three touchdowns.
The Eagles' 55 points are the most any team has scored in a conference championship game since the NFL and AFL merger in 1970.
The Philadelphia team won their only Super Bowl in the 2017 season against Tom Brady's Patriots and now, two years after Nick Sirianni's team lost 38-35 to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl held in Phoenix, the franchise has the opportunity to win their second championship.
When is the Super Bowl?
The NFL's grand final will take place on Sunday, February 9, at the Superdome in New Orleans, at 6:30 (ET).
This will be the 11th time that the Super Bowl will be played in the city of Louisiana, tying with Miami as the host city with the most finals.
The Halftime Show will be headlined by Kendrick Lamar.
