This week, the controversial Donald Trump was officially inaugurated as the new President of the United States, and what has followed, somewhat expectedly, has been a lot of uncertainty and more controversy. Amidst this, an anecdote involving Mexican actress Salma Hayek resurfaced, where she revealed that the tycoon tried to court her.

This story, which came to light during the promotion of the movie Beatriz at Dinner, where Hayek plays an immigrant woman harassed by a powerful businessman, has been linked to the themes of harassment and Trump's problematic behavior towards women in entertainment.

What did Salma Hayek say about Donald Trump courting her in the past?
During a chat with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show, Hayek recalled how, at a social event, Trump invited her to dinner along with her then-boyfriend. What started as a friendly gesture soon turned into something more uncomfortable, due to Trump's direct insistence towards the actress.
Even though she made it clear that she had a partner, the businessman kept inviting her out and assured her that her boyfriend "was not good enough for her."
“He called me, he invited me to go out. I told him that I had a boyfriend, that I wouldn't go out with him, not even if I were single,” Hayek recounted, who also recalled that Trump insisted she should give him a chance because her partner was not "worthy" of her.
In addition to this, the 58-year-old actress recalled another episode related to the current President of the United States, which shed more light on the businessman's attitude towards her.
After rejecting his invitations, the actress revealed that Trump apparently retaliated by spreading derogatory comments about her appearance: “When I told him I wouldn’t go out with him, even if I didn’t have a boyfriend, someone told the National Enquirer what he didn’t have the guts to tell me personally,” Hayek recounted.
“They said he didn’t want to go out with me because I was too short,” she added, making it clear that the comment was a response to her refusal.
