Donald Trump approves possibility of Elon Musk buying TikTok

The president signed an executive order to suspend the ban on TikTok in the country for 75 days.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to suspend the ban on TikTok in the United States for an additional 75 days. In fact, Trump stated that Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, would be very interested in buying the Chinese social network, but Musk has not officially expressed his intention.

Elon Musk's intentions to buy TikTok, according to Trump

During a press conference at the White House, a reporter asked the new President of the United States if he would agree to have TikTok owned by Elon Musk, who also owns X and SpaceX. "I would, if he wanted to buy it," Trump responded.

One of the first actions that Trump took as President of the United States was to suspend the ban on TikTok and suggested that the entity that buys it would have to "give half to the United States" in exchange for a "license."

Chinese government proposes Musk's option

According to Bloomberg, the Chinese government would be considering acquiring TikTok's operations in the United States if Musk buys them, in order to prevent the app from being blocked in the country. It is worth noting that content creator Mr. Beast also revealed his interest in buying TikTok through two videos posted on the platform.

Although Trump said he does not have the app installed on his phone, he joked saying he might download it right now. He also claimed to have a "special affection" for TikTok, as he believes it helped young voters choose him in the November 2024 elections.

However, according to a CNN survey, Trump did have the support of young voters, but men were the ones who mostly supported Trump compared to 2020.

In this instance, Trump received 54% of the votes from the 18 to 24 age group; 53% from voters aged 25 to 29; and 51% from those aged 30 to 39.
