The co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, has revealed an unpublished project by the late filmmaker David Lynch.
Before his death on January 15 at the age of 78, Lynch was collaborating with Netflix on a limited miniseries. This project would have been his last television work, following his iconic series Twin Peaks, which aired in the early 90s.
In an emotional message posted on Instagram, Sarandos recalled the moments shared with Lynch and revealed details about the project.
According to Sarandos, Netflix immediately accepted the director's proposal to develop a miniseries described as "full of mystery and risks," a distinctive characteristic of Lynch's style. However, the pandemic and the filmmaker's health problems halted production before it could begin.
"David and I only spoke on a few occasions after our first meeting, but years later he came to Netflix with a proposal for a miniseries, which we immediately accepted," wrote Sarandos.
"It was a David Lynch production, full of mystery and risks. First came Covid, then some health issues, which prevented the project from being produced. But we made it clear that, when it was ready, we were completely on board."

Sarandos also shared an anecdote about his last meeting with the director, which took place at his house, where Lynch was accompanied by Laura Dern, an actress and frequent collaborator of the filmmaker.
During that conversation, they talked about movies, art, life, and even the windows of Sarandos' house, which caught Lynch's attention because of their design.
These memories highlight Lynch's unwavering passion for creativity and his close bond with his trusted collaborators.
