Details continue to emerge following the controversy because Eugenio Derbez criticized Selena Gomez’s performance in the movie ‘Emilia Pérez’. Colleagues of both actors have spoken out about what happened, some in defense of the Mexican actor, and others negatively pointing out his criticism of another’s work.
Alessandra Rosaldo, Derbez's wife, revealed that he has already spoken with Gomez through messages, and that despite the controversy, both have maintained a very good relationship.
"I know she has been in contact with Eugenio via message, yes, she has already reached out to Eugenio. So, well, well, the truth is that it was just a moment," Rosaldo said, as reported by the digital magazine Quien.
The actress, also the mother of Eugenio Derbez's youngest daughter, also emphasized that he has told her he "loved" the film 'Emilia Pérez'.
"Eugenio loved the movie, he told me about it in New York saying, 'You have to see this movie. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen in my life, but it works incredibly and I loved it,'" he stated.
Eugenio Derbez: Do not talk about any colleagues.
Eugenio Derbez has publicly spoken out after criticizing Selena Gomez for her role in 'Emilia Pérez'. The first time he did it was on social media, publicly apologizing to her. Then, he did it in front of journalists, asserting that he had no bad intentions, and that he was just giving his opinion like any viewer can about whether they like something or not.
However, he acknowledged that due to his position as an actor, he may have made a mistake in criticizing a colleague.
"It's like when you go see a movie and you like something or you don't. What I do recognize is that I shouldn't have said, one should never talk about any colleague, it's something that I have always done, and it's the first time I did it. One should never do it," expressed Derbez.
