The story of ‘Concho’, the toad that appears on Bad Bunny’s new album

We will tell you more about the story of this character who has been the protagonist of the singer's new album.

The recent release of ‘Debí tirar más fotos’, the new album by Bad Bunny, has generated great anticipation among his followers and in the music industry. However, one of the elements that has captured the most attention is not just the music, but an unexpected character that has managed to carve out a space in the singer’s visual narrative: Concho, a toad that has piqued the curiosity of the public.

Although, at first glance, Concho may seem like just a fun detail or another aesthetic element, its appearance has a deeper symbolic background. This toad has become a phenomenon on social media, sparking a debate about species conservation.

The appearance of 'Concho'

Concho is an animated toad that appears in several of the visual pieces related to the album, including the short film "I Should Have Taken More Pictures." In this work, Puerto Rican filmmaker and actor Jacobo Morales plays a man who embarks on an emotional journey into the past, through memories trapped in photographs. The toad, who appears as his companion in this process of reflection, becomes a confidant in moments of introspection.

The interesting thing about the character is that Concho is not only present as a passive observer, but he also becomes an active part of the plot.

With his gray suit and blue boots, Concho shares everyday moments with the protagonist, such as eating together or having symbolic conversations about lost time and unexperienced experiences. The toad, standing upright, adds a surreal touch to the scenes, creating a unique atmosphere.

Additionally, Concho also appears in Bad Bunny's shorts on Spotify, where he interacts with the songs from the album. Users who access the album on this platform can see the toad engaging in different activities synchronized with the songs. In these clips, Concho is shown dancing to the rhythm of NUEVAYol, practicing yoga while VOY A LLeVARTE PA PR plays, dressing up with PERFuMITO NUEVO, and waking up with KETU TeCRÉ. These small animations have had a great impact among fans, who have created tribute videos to the character, further integrating him into the album's narrative.

The truth behind 'Concho'

The appearance of Concho has also led to deeper reflections on its meaning. Many have pointed out that the toad represents an endemic species of Puerto Rico, which takes on special relevance given Bad Bunny's own origins.

Concho is actually a Puerto Rican crested toad, known scientifically as Peltophryne lemur. This medium-sized amphibian has a coloration that varies between yellow and dark brown, and is characterized by its protrusions above the eyes and its curved, long snout, as reported by the Puerto Rican Association of Nature Photographers.

"This is the only species of toad endemic to Puerto Rico. In the past, it was found distributed in Virgin Gorda (BVI) and in the northern and southern areas of P.R. The populations in Virgin Gorda and the northern area of P.R. are estimated to be extinct," the association mentions.
