What did J.K. Rowling say about Neil Gaiman and the sexual abuse allegations he is facing?

The controversial writer also questioned the apparent silence of the literary community in the face of these accusations, pointing out alarming similarities between Gaiman’s case and Weinstein, the film producer who sparked the #MeToo movement.

In a post on the social network X, Rowling expressed her bewilderment at the literary community’s silence in the face of the sexual assault allegations that Gaiman is facing: "The literary community, which had a lot to say about Harvey Weinstein before he was convicted, has kept a strange silence in the face of the multiple accusations against Neil Gaiman, coming from women who had never met, but who - like with Weinstein - tell surprisingly similar stories," wrote Rowling.

The comparison between Gaiman and Weinstein didn’t stop at the level of assault accusations. Rowling also highlighted the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and payments to silence alleged victims, a pattern that, according to her, reflects a similar modus operandi to Weinstein’s. These statements come after a New York Magazine article detailing multiple accusations from women against Gaiman, some of whom were minors when the incidents occurred.

Gaiman, a renowned author and central figure in the entertainment industry, is currently facing multiple accusations of sexual assault, some of them coming from women who were minors at the time of the incidents. According to a report by ‘New York Magazine’, eight women have filed complaints against the writer, describing a pattern of behavior that includes abuse at his residence in New York and during the pandemic lockdown in New Zealand.
