Jennifer Lopez is focused on helping those affected by the fires in Los Angeles

According to authorities, at least 10 people have lost their lives due to the fires.

Jennifer Lopez, 55, has decided to cancel all her scheduled media appearances for this week in order to focus on supporting the Los Angeles community during the devastating fires affecting the region.

A source close to the actress from Unstoppable confirmed to PEOPLE that López considers it essential to offer her support during these "difficult times." The star had planned to appear on shows like Today, The View, Live with Kelly and Mark, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but has put her public commitments on hold to prioritize this emergency.

The news comes just days after the premiere of his new movie Unstoppable, scheduled at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, was canceled due to safety concerns over strong winds and active fires in the city. "While we were hoping to celebrate this wonderful and inspiring movie with you, safety is our top priority," said a representative from Amazon MGM Studios.

Fires, exacerbated by strong winds and dry vegetation, began on Tuesday and have quickly spread through areas such as Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Altadena, and Hollywood Hills. So far, they have forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate and left a trail of destruction. According to authorities, at least 24 people have lost their lives due to the fires.

The Hollywood industry has also reacted to the disaster by postponing key events. The Critics Choice Awards were moved from the 12th to the 26th of January, and the announcement of the Academy Awards nominations was delayed from the 17th to the 19th of January. Other events, such as the live nominations for the SAG Awards, were also canceled.

In the midst of this crisis, López has prioritized his commitment to his city. This is not the first time the star has shown his charitable side; during past emergencies, he has led fundraising and donation efforts. While the material and human losses are devastating, López hopes to inspire others to come together in support of the victims.
