On January 5th, Bad Bunny released his latest album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” sparking speculation about whether some of the songs are inspired by his ex-girlfriend, Kendall Jenner. However, the Puerto Rican singer offered a broader perspective on the meanings behind his music in an interview with TIME.
"I have written songs inspired by people that no one has the slightest idea who they are," explained Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. "The meaning of a song can vary: it can be about the absence of someone who is no longer with you, a love, or many other things that no longer exist."
Bad Bunny released an album in tribute to his roots in Puerto Rico.
The romance between Bad Bunny and Kendall started making noise in February 2023, when they were seen dining together. Subsequently, the couple was spotted on various outings, from nights in the front row of basketball games to dates in New York. Although they never officially confirmed their relationship, in September they took a public step with a Gucci campaign that presented them together. However, their romance ended in December of the same year.
Although some rumors of a reconciliation emerged in May 2024 when they were seen together at the Met Gala party and on other outings, Bad Bunny made it clear that his new album is more of a tribute to his homeland than to his love life.
“This is an album of Puerto Rican music, and it has a completely different vibe than anything any other artist has done,” he said. “I found what my roots are: the sound that represents me.” Beyond the rumors about Kendall, the album reflects Bad Bunny's connection with Puerto Rico, incorporating indigenous sounds and an approach that celebrates his culture.”
