NBC News published some of the victims who lost their lives when Shamsud-Din Jabbar deliberately ran over more than 15 people with a rented truck on the busy Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
Fifteen people were killed and more than 30 are in critical condition when the former US military member carried out his malicious plan as New Year's was being celebrated.
These were some of the deceased victims.
Martin "Tiger" Bech, 27, is one of the victims. His mother told NBC News that her son was a graduate of Princeton University, where he played as a receiver on the football team. He lived in New York and worked as a trader for a Wall Street firm.
He was with his friend when he was hit by a car, and luckily, his friend survived. "He was living his best moment and he knew it," he said. "Simply, that leaves a huge void in our lives," added the mother of his child.
Reggie Hunter, who was 37 years old and from Baton Rouge, was described by his cousin Shirell Jackson, who rushed to the University Medical Center where Hunter was pronounced dead, as an "incredible person" and "a little man" with a "big heart." She said that Hunter was a warehouse manager, extremely funny, and adored his two sons, aged 11 and 1 year old.
Ni’Kyra Cheyenne Dedeaux had just graduated from high school when she was murdered in New Orleans. "When your parents tell you not to go anywhere, please listen to them... this was an act of terrorism and now my baby is gone, friends," wrote her mother Melissa Dedeaux on Facebook. "My baby is gone, she is no longer with us."
Other victims were identified as Mateo Tenedorio, 25 years old, and Hubert Gauthreaux, 21 years old.
