The man who killed 15 people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans was a military veteran born in the United States, but lived in a trailer park surrounded by sheep and goats, just a few meters from the local mosque.
The terrorist was identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42 years old, from Houston, and authorities reported that in his rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck, an ISIS flag was waving.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar lived in a trailer.
Jabbar carried out his planned goal on New Year's Day, as he went from the peak of the sky to the decline. The man born in the United States had all the possibilities to live in luxury, but now he lived in squalor.
NY Post comments on its website that "he served in the military for over a decade and was deployed to Afghanistan before carrying out the attack on Wednesday, inspired by ISIS."
In Afghanistan, he worked as an information technology specialist from February 2009 to January 2010, according to his military record. "Jabbar served on active duty from March 2007 to January 2015 and was a reservist from January 2015 to July 2020."
According to the US Army, the New Orleans attacker left the service as a master sergeant and, in 2020, posted a real estate business on YouTube. With a neat appearance, he described himself as a reliable and trustworthy native of Texas who spent 10 years in the military, which taught him "the meaning of great service."
Negligence and precarious housing
The terrorist attack carried out by Jabbar is considered the deadliest since September 11. The terrorist lived in squalor and poverty in a trailer park on the outskirts of Houston, where mostly Muslim immigrants reside.
A neighbor told The Post that the man only spoke Urdu, the national language of Pakistan.
Until the day of his Machiavellian plan, few neighbors knew him: Francois Venegas described Jabbar as a "simple and reserved person," "just when he walked by, he would say 'hello' and that was it.
Jabbar had two daughters aged 15 and 20 from his first marriage. He got divorced in 2012 and remarried in 2017. He had a son, who is now six years old.
According to information from various media sources, he spent 10 days in Egypt last year.
