After more than eight years of divorce proceedings, Angelina Jolie finally reached a divorce agreement with Brad Pitt regarding their shared assets, stating that she does so because she prefers to “find peace.”

The former couple met during the filming of 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith', a film released in 2005. They got married in 2014 but in 2016 they announced "irreconcilable differences". Since then, everything has been uphill with the separation process due to disagreements over shared properties and custody of their six children, who are currently between 16 and 23 years old.

After so many years of accusations between them, Angelina Jolie announced on Monday night through her lawyer James Simon, from Hersh Mannis, that she had reached an agreement. But more than an agreement, her decision reflects a surrender after so many years of struggle, as she gave up all the shared assets she had with Brad Pitt. She chose to be at peace for "healing for her family."
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and she has since focused on finding peace and healing for her family,” the lawyer said in a statement, as reported by NBC News.
Although the actress took the step towards finalizing the divorce, her legal representative indicated that there is still much to follow. "This is just one part of a long ongoing process that began eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved that this part is over."
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt during years of struggle
Angelina and Brad Pitt's breakup process has not been easy. She accused him in 2018 of not paying child support. In 2022, she accused him of physical and verbal assault on a transatlantic flight from France to Los Angeles in 2016. She said he tried to drown one of the children. Supposedly, this was what triggered the divorce.
Brad Pitt accused Jolie of "manipulating media coverage." He even stated that he had lent her eight million dollars and paid 1.3 million in bills.
