Carter was the thirty-ninth president of the United States and the first to reach 100 years old, however, he passed away last Sunday, December 29th. The politician had been receiving palliative care since February 2023 at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he lived with his 77-year-old wife, Rosalynn Carter. The former first lady passed away this year, as she died on November 19, 2023, at the age of 96.
"The Maranatha Baptist Church, where the former president was a member and taught Sunday school for many years, will hold a prayer vigil on Monday night," NBC News added on its website.
Relationship between Carter and Biden
The presidents of the United States maintained a good relationship for decades. Carter said that Biden supported him unconditionally when he ran for president. Even in 2020, during the 2020 Democratic National Convention, he declared: “When I ran for president in 1976, Joe Biden was my first and most effective supporter in the Senate. For decades, he has been my loyal and dedicated friend,” a live recording recounts.
During Carter’s 100th birthday, Biden congratulated him in a big way: “Mr. President, you have always been a moral force for our nation and the world. I recognized that when I was a young senator. That’s why I supported you so early. You are a voice of courage, conviction, compassion, and above all, a dear friend to Jill, to me, and to our family.”
