The British Royal Family is one of the monarchies with the most rules and protocols, and on Christmas day they are not exempt from that. One of the prohibitions for Prince William and his wife, Princess Kate Middleton is that they cannot have breakfast together. The Prince of Wales cannot share the first meal on the morning of December 25th, due to a rare tradition that dates back to ancient times.

Men and women should have breakfast in separate rooms. This custom began in the times of King Edward VII so that women could have a rest before the large amount of formal activities on Christmas Day.

Vanidades explained that men usually have hearty breakfasts like scrambled eggs, sausages, and fish, while women prefer something lighter like yogurt, toast, and fruit.

But why is this tradition of having breakfast separately applied? The reason why Prince William and Kate Middleton have breakfast separately, as well as all the men and women of the Royal Family, is because this is a way to prepare for the morning mass they all attend, and to arrive on time; it is also a preparation for all the activities of the rest of the day, in which they do participate together and share.

After breakfast, everyone gathers for the morning mass on December 25th and then goes to Sandringham residence, where they enjoy lunch with turkey as the main dish, exchange gifts, and participate in other official events. The schedule is planned with a strict timeline that they must follow.

Prince William and Kate Middleton with more traditions at Christmas

Another activity that Prince William and Kate Middleton do at Christmas, like the rest of the family and the British people in general, is to watch the king's Christmas speech together. The monarch's message is a symbolic moment for the British, of peace and family unity.

Heraldo USA indicated that another tradition of the Royal Family during the holiday season is the annual lunch they have a week before Christmas at Buckingham Palace. They also continue the tradition of sending Christmas cards, just like Queen Elizabeth II used to do.

When Prince William and his brother Harry used to share, they both had the tradition of playing a soccer game at the Sandringham estate with the staff members. William’s team wore Aston Villa socks, while Harry’s team wore Arsenal gear. Now that Harry lives in the United States, this tradition has been broken, and it is unknown if the game is still being played with another team captain taking over.
