Macaulay Culkin, famous for his iconic role as Kevin McCallister in “Home Alone”, recently revealed that he considered buying the house where the movie was filmed in Illinois. The 44-year-old actor confessed this curious idea during an event at the Rosemont Theater, located in the same state where the famous residence is.
Culkin mentioned that he noticed the property for sale in May and was close to acquiring it, just for fun. According to his words, his plan was to turn the house into a "movie fun house", allowing visitors to recreate iconic scenes, such as sledding down the stairs, just like his character did in the unforgettable 1990 film.
The "Home Alone" house was almost Macaulay Culkin's.
During the event, the actor joked saying, "I was about to buy it, but I have kids and I'm busy," referencing his current family life. Culkin is the father of two young children with his fiancée, actress Brenda Song. He admitted that fatherhood has changed his perspective on "Home Alone."
According to Culkin, he now watches the movie through a different lens. "Watching the movie with them and them having no idea who is sitting next to them is something special," he commented with humor. Culkin stated that his role as Kevin McCallister, although at the time was a mix of "blessing and curse," has taken on a new meaning thanks to his role as a father.
More than three decades after the release of Home Alone, Culkin continues to celebrate the legacy of the franchise with his nostalgic tour titled "A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin," where he reflects on the impact of the film on his life and pop culture.
Macaulay Culkin was one step away from making fiction a reality
The house in question, located in Winnetka, a suburb of Chicago, was put on the market for 5.25 million dollars. The residence, built in 1921, features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a gym, a sports court in the basement, and a movie theater.
Although the purchase did not ultimately materialize, the idea of Macaulay Culkin potentially owning the house that catapulted him to fame would have closed a perfect circle. Even without that acquisition, the memories of Kevin McCallister defending his home will continue to live on in the minds of millions of fans.
