YouTube TV increased its price and becomes the most expensive streaming service

YouTube TV increases its monthly price, raising questions about the value of streaming compared to cable.

YouTube TV has announced a new increase in its monthly subscription price, marking another blow to the wallets of those who rely on streaming as an alternative to traditional cable.

The price increase, effective immediately for new users, reinforces the growing tensions between service quality and affordability.

Starting today, the monthly cost of YouTube TV will be $82.99, which represents an increase of $10 compared to its previous price. Current subscribers will begin paying the new rate starting on January 13, 2025.

According to the platform, the increase is due to the rise in content costs and the need to maintain the quality of the service that offers more than 100 channels, unlimited storage in its DVR, up to six accounts per household, and three simultaneous streams.

It is worth remembering that the last price adjustment occurred in March 2023, when the cost went from $64.99 to $72.99. However, this new figure places YouTube TV at the same level as similar packages such as Hulu + Live TV, Disney+, and ESPN+.

Additional cost

Users who wish to enjoy 4K content will need to continue paying an additional $9.99 per month, with this feature remaining as an optional service.

For those looking to reduce costs without giving up streaming, Sling TV emerges as a viable option.

With prices of $45.99 per month for its Sling Orange or Sling Blue plans, this service offers a more focused but specific approach: Sling Orange is geared towards sports with multiple ESPN channels, while Sling Blue prioritizes news with options like MSNBC and Fox News. Users also have the option to subscribe to both plans for $60.99 per month.

Unlike YouTube TV, Sling TV does not charge extra for 4K content, although its availability is limited to certain devices and does not include, for example, Apple TV.

Streaming or back to cable?

Social media users are discussing how the continuous increase in streaming service prices raises doubts about their viability compared to more traditional options such as cable television.

While streaming initially promised to be an affordable and personalized solution, the constant price increases are decreasing its appeal for many users.

With the increasing competition between platforms and the pressure to balance costs and quality, consumers will have to evaluate whether to continue betting on streaming or reconsider traditional options.
