VIDEO: Man crashes his car into dealership after being denied a refund

According to Sergeant Greg Moffit from the Sandy Police Department, the man's name is Michael Lee Murray and he tried to return the car.

This past Monday, a case went viral on social media after the video was shared where a man crashed a car into the main entrance of a Mazda dealership in Sandy, Utah, after being told he couldn’t return the vehicle he had bought that same morning.

According to Sergeant Greg Moffit from the Sandy Police Department, the man's name is Michael Lee Murray and he tried to return the car he purchased under the "as-is" condition, which makes the purchases final and non-refundable.

After receiving this response from the store during a phone call, Murray expressed his dissatisfaction and threatened to crash his car into the business if they did not accept his request.

A few hours later, at 4 p.m. local time, he carried out his threat and drove the car to the dealership, crashing it into the main entrance, shattering the glass doors and causing panic among employees and customers.

What were the damages from the serious crash?

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The damages caused by the accident were against another car that was in the showroom, in addition to completely destroying the main entrance. Among these material damages are estimated to be at least $10,000, a figure that could increase according to evaluations.

After the incident, the police arrived at the scene and arrested Murray without him offering any resistance. Although he refused to provide statements, he faces serious charges including a second-degree felony for criminal damage, due to losses exceeding $5,000, and two misdemeanor charges: reckless behavior and economic disruption.

The Mazda dealership has not issued an official statement, but employees and customers present at the time shared their testimonies. "It was a very tense moment. We saw the car coming straight towards the entrance and we all ran to safety," mentioned an employee who preferred to remain anonymous.

According to court documents, Murray was released on conditional custody while awaiting his preliminary hearing. Among the imposed conditions are attending hearings punctually, refraining from committing new crimes, and submitting weekly reports to authorities.
