Cher and Barbara Streisand among celebrities who had to evacuate their homes in Malibu due to fire

The fire forced the evacuation of about 6,000 people and the closure of roads and schools due to the risk of rapid spread of the flames.

Thousands of people had to be evacuated from their homes after a fire broke out in the Malibu area in the state of California, as reported by local media this Wednesday. Among the evacuees were some celebrities like Cher and Barbara Streisand.

In addition, actor Dick Van Dyke and actress Mira Sorvino are also on the list of those affected by this fire. The actor himself, who turns 99 next Friday, said that he and his wife, Arlene, fled their home with their pets when the fire, named Franklin, threatened their community, as reported by The New York Times.

How is Cher doing after the fire in Malibu?

Liz Rosenberg, Cher's publicist, explained in a brief phone interview that the singer was evacuated to a hotel on Monday night along with her pets, but did not provide further details on how the legendary singer is doing.

Mira Sorvino, for her part, took to her X account (formerly Twitter) to reassure her followers and acquaintances: "To all my friends and neighbors in Malibu, I pray that you are safe. We evacuated in the middle of the night, children and pets accounted for! We are living in terrifying times!", Sorvino wrote.

According to EFE, the fire forced the evacuation of about 6,000 people and the closure of roads and schools due to the risk of rapid spread of the flames in the city of Malibu, in western California.

The fire has already burned more than 2,200 acres (almost 9 square kilometers) in less than 24 hours and spread along the Pacific coast, forcing the closure of all schools in central and eastern Malibu, where more than 10,000 residents live, as reported by the California Fire Department (FireCal).

The National Weather Service maintains a red alert warning for strong wind gusts in Los Angeles County and neighboring Ventura until Wednesday, which could reach up to 120 km/h.
