Elton John recently shared a shocking revelation about his health: the vision loss he has been experiencing in the past few months has put his music career on hold.
It is worth noting that at 77 years old, the artist wanted to stay active, with various live shows, as he wanted to continue delighting his fans, but he had to stop due to what happened.
What did Elton John say?
In an exclusive interview with ABC's Good Morning America, the British singer revealed that he has been unable to see with his right eye since July due to a serious eye infection he suffered in southern France.
“It's been four months since I can't see, and my left eye is not in its best condition,” commented John, visibly affected by the situation. “There is hope and encouragement that everything will turn out fine, but I am a bit stuck at the moment because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don't know.”
Elton also explained how difficult it has been for him to face this condition, pointing out that currently he cannot read or see anything clearly. "It left me stunned. I can't see anything. I can't read anything, I can't see anything."
This medical setback, which has severely affected his ability to work, was initially revealed by the artist himself in September, when he admitted that he had partially lost his sight due to what he described as a "severe eye infection." Despite the difficulties, Elton John remained optimistic, highlighting that he is in the process of recovery, although progress has been slow. "I am recovering, but it is an extremely slow process and it will be some time before vision returns to the affected eye," he wrote on Instagram at that time.
Elton John remains focused on his music career.
During his appearance on Good Morning America, Elton emphasized that, despite his situation, he is focused on his recovery and staying positive. "It's never lucky for something like this to happen," he commented, adding that his family and team are still focused on his health.
Despite these challenges, John did not miss the opportunity to show his gratitude for his life and career. He took the opportunity to promote his new documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, directed by RJ Cutler, and expressed how proud he is of his family and how they are handling this difficult moment. “I am the luckiest man in the world,” he concluded, reaffirming his resilience in the face of adversity.
