The actor and comedian Jamie Foxx returns to stand-up comedy with his special “What Had Happened Was…,” which will premiere on Netflix on December 10th.
In this presentation, Foxx will address with humor the serious health problem he faced in 2023, when he was hospitalized for a medical emergency that kept his followers and friends in the industry on edge.
In April 2023, Jamie suffered a medical complication in Atlanta that kept him hospitalized and worried his fans.
Serious medical emergency
Although she has not revealed exact details of the cause, in recent interviews she has mentioned that her issue began with a severe headache and culminated in a difficult stage, where she spent 20 days without remembering the events of that period. This special represents her return to the stage after almost two decades, following her last special in 2003.
During a ceremony of the African American Film Critics Association, Foxx expressed his intention to share this experience in a comedic way, aligning with his style of using comedy as a tool to face difficult situations.
In October, he performed in Atlanta for three nights, addressing topics such as the overwhelming support from his fans and the rumors circulating on social media about his health. In the preview of the special, Jamie stated: "If I can continue to be funny, I can continue to be alive... I'm back." His return to the stage reaffirms his connection to comedy, which has been a cornerstone of his life and career.
Production and upcoming projects
The special, directed by Hamish Hamilton and produced by Foxx along with a team that includes Datari Turner and Marcus King, marks Foxx's commitment to the project, supported by Foxxhole Productions and Done + Dusted.
In addition, the actor will continue his collaboration with Netflix in the action and comedy film "Back in Action," alongside Cameron Diaz, which will be released on January 17, 2024. This film experienced a temporary pause during his recovery, but Foxx recently resumed filming with great enthusiasm.
