The Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have acquired a new summer home in European lands, but it could soon become their permanent residence, as their life in the United States doesn’t seem to be what they had dreamed of.

According to recent reports, the couple spent millions on a beachfront property located in Melides, Portugal, a small village situated 130 kilometers south of Lisbon. King Carlos III's youngest son likely would have been recommended the Costa Terra Golf & Ocean Club by his cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, who have been splitting their time between the UK and Melides since 2022.

The luxurious golf resort that is about to be built covers 292 hectares and features private villas, horseback rides, a relaxation center, and access to the beach on the Costa Azul in Portugal.
What would have been the real reason for Harry and Meghan to buy this house in Portugal?
Although luxury and acquiring real estate may not be unreasonable, the real reason would not be a simple whim or impulse. According to the New York Post, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would actually be disillusioned with their life in California.
“Maybe living in the United States was not what they thought it would be and that is why they would now be looking to return to the United Kingdom,” said Grant Harrold, a former employee of the couple, to the Post. “Their life in America, with so many people moving away and moving back, I don't think it would be unusual for Harry and Meghan to leave the United States for Europe,” he added.
On the other hand, the royal expert Christopher Andersen, author of 'The King: The Life of Charles III', commented on the "fascinating" purchase of the house while chatting exclusively with Us Weekly. He pointed out that Eugenie's husband, Harry's cousin, "works for this community," which Andersen referred to as "a very elegant area" in Portugal.
"It makes sense that they might take advantage of that and buy a house there," Andersen continued, adding that there could be "another reason" for the purchase. With a house in Portugal, Meghan is eligible for the Golden Passport.
"It gives you access to all European countries," Andersen explained, pointing out that Meghan "never" obtained a British passport. This means there are "other advantages" to buying the property.
The Duke and Duchess are not the only celebrity names that have purchased property in the area, which is nicknamed the Hamptons of Portugal. Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen has a house in the area, and it has also been reported that George Clooney and Sharon Stone have invested in properties in the same area where Harry and Meghan's new home is located.
