Kamala Harris on the cover of Vogue: “The candidate for our times,” says the magazine

The article has more than 8,000 words and over a dozen pages in print.

Kamala Harris lands her second Vogue cover less than a month before the US presidential elections, where she is presented as a star of our times. Dressed in a brown suit and a dark purple blouse, the current vice president is sitting with her legs crossed, looking directly at the camera.

The vice president and Democratic candidate was called by Vogue magazine as the "candidate of our time." The cover, shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz, features Harris, 59, in a lengthy article of about 8,000 words and over a dozen pages in print.

It tells a series of family anecdotes, as well as her rapid rise as a Democratic candidate after President Joe Biden withdrew from the electoral race in July: "With President Joe Biden's decision to end his re-election campaign, the world looked at Harris with hopes and doubts," the magazine describes.

"One of my first calls, outside of the family, will be to the team working with me on our plan to reduce costs for the American people," Harris said.

He also referred to the war in the Middle East, stating that he would provide "incentives" for de-escalation and a "path" towards stability, and he spoke about "Israel's right to defend itself" and the "Palestinians' right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination."

"There has been a language and a conversation about what has been happening, particularly around Israel and Gaza, that suggests this is binary. It is not," he said, adding: "You are not for this or for that."

"Much of the work that needs to be done," Harris continued, "depends on the circumstances of the moment. I cannot anticipate what the circumstances will be in four months."

Harris has been the first female, Black, and Asian American Vice President in the history of the United States. She had already been on the cover of Vogue when she arrived at the White House in 2021.
