Chances of Joker 2 for the Oscar: What do the experts say?

The negative reviews received by the film starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga could lead the Academy to completely ignore it.

Contrary to what happened with its first installment, the highly anticipated movie “Joker 2″ may not have many chances of being nominated for the 2025 Oscars, considering the terrible reviews it has received.

“Joker” received eleven nominations at the 2020 Academy Awards, winning in only two categories: “Best Actor” for the magnificent performance of its lead Joaquin Phoenix and “Best Original Score”.

So, taking all of this into account, it was expected that "Joker 2: Folie à Deux" would once again sweep at the Oscars, and perhaps even give Lady Gaga an award for her performance, as well as continue to excel in the musical aspect.

“Joker 2: Folie à Deux” may not be nominated for the 2025 Academy Awards

Due to the poor reviews that "Joker: Folie à Deux" has received since its screening at the Venice Film Festival, as well as its theatrical release, experts believe that the Academy could completely ignore it, especially because other films have generated a lot of buzz and have been better received by both the audience and critics.

However, "Joker 2" could receive some technical or "less important" nominations, standing out in its cinematography and soundtrack.

Some critics believe that despite all the negative reviews received by "Joker: Folie à Deux", Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga could be nominated in the categories of 'Best Actor' and 'Best Supporting Actress', respectively, due to their impeccable performances.

But as mentioned before, this year many actors and actresses have managed to capture attention, and some believe that the best thing that could happen to "Joker 2" is for people to start forgetting about it.
