Tom Brady’s Birmingham City beats Wrexham in Hollywood derby in the English third division

Celebrities are shareholders of League One teams.

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Tom Brady earned the right to boast over Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney after Birmingham City, the team of which he is a minority owner, defeated Wrexham 3-1 on Monday in a match dubbed the Hollywood Derby.

The match in the English third division would not have had this attention, but the high-profile owners of both clubs have changed the story in recent years.

Reynolds and McElhenney acquired Wrexham in 2021, while Brady bought a small stake in Birmingham through Knighthead Capital Management in 2023.

The BBC suggested that this is the biggest meeting in the history of League One and certainly had all the attention and glamour, as well as putting a smile on Brady's face.

This is how Tom Brady experienced this celebrity derby.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion watched the match from the stands, alongside his friend David Beckham, and surely felt uncomfortable when Jack Marriott gave Wrexham the lead after three minutes.

But Birmingham recovered because newly signed Jay Stansfield was in good shape.

Stansfield tied the game in the middle of the first half and then gave Birmingham the lead seven minutes into the second half.

Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata added the third goal after an hour of play and Birmingham dominated the rest of the match in front of their own fans.

Krystian Bielik from Birmingham received a red card four minutes before the end, but there wasn't enough time for the Welsh team to react.

With this result, Birmingham tied Wrexham in points at the top of the standings, but the Welsh team is in first place due to goal difference. Birmingham has also played one game less.
