In recent days, several accidents involving circus acrobats have been reported. The latest one happened to a circus artist, known for holding the Guinness World Record, and at Cirque du Soleil, one of the most famous shows in the world.
A few days ago, an acrobat fell from the tightrope at the Gravity Circus tent in Hastings, in East Sussex county, United Kingdom.
Who was the acrobat who suffered the fall at Cirque du Soleil?
The Russian acrobat Mariia Konfektova suffered a serious aerial accident while performing in the show "Kooza" at a presentation on Saturday night at the Portland Expo Center in Oregon, United States.
Konfektova, who specializes in aerial hoop, fell approximately 5 meters during the first act of the show.
Those present at the show documented the exact moment of the accident where it is observed that Konfektova directly hit her face, and according to specialists, she could have suffered injuries to her jaw or lost some teeth due to the strong impact.
A witness told ABC News that they saw blood on the ground, but Konfektova then gave a thumbs up to indicate that she was okay.
The emergency teams from Cirque du Soleil attended to the acrobat on site and transferred her to a hospital for a more thorough examination.
The organizers briefly stopped the show to attend to an incident, and according to a Cirque du Soliel spokesperson: "The health and safety of our employees is our top priority." The company reported that "the artist was conscious, stable, and receiving care from medical specialists."
On social media, Konfektova responded to some people and said she was okay.
Konfektova is known for holding the Guinness World Record for the most number of rotations in an aerial hoop in 30 seconds.
