Do you remember ‘La Bamba’? A remake of the classic 80s film has been announced

The story of Richard Valenzuela, better known as Ritchie Valens, will be adapted to the big screen once again.

In 1987, “La Bamba” was released in theaters, achieving unexpected success and revitalizing public interest in the Latin rock star who died at the age of 17 just as he was beginning to gain fame.

In this Columbia Pictures film, Ritchie Valens was portrayed by Lou Diamond Phillips, and they manage to recreate the excitement for rock in his early days, while also paying a well-deserved tribute to the young man whose music managed to cross borders.

"La Bamba" received a nomination for 'Best Dramatic Film' at the 1988 Golden Globes, and it is known that the writer and director, Luis Valdez, will return in the new adaptation as an executive producer.

When will the remake of 'La Bamba' be released?

"Alongside Ritchie Valens' rock and roll classics, my 1987 biographical film 'La Bamba' has gracefully withstood the test of time. However, the tragic short life and career of Richard Valenzuela continue to inspire new generations of fans around the world," Luis Valdez expressed about this new adaptation.

José Rivera will be in charge of writing the new adaptation of "La Bamba", while Mucho Mas Media and Sony Pictures Studios will be involved in the production.

"As new biographical details come to light, a new cinematic perspective is offered on his eternal seventeen years on earth, which also contributes to the perpetuation of his legend," Luis Valdez highlighted about the remake.

More details about “La Bamba” are still unknown, such as who will play Ritchie Valens in this new adaptation and who will complement the cast, as well as when filming will begin and, even less, its release date in theaters.
