Kamala Harris breaks fundraising record following Biden’s withdrawal

Kamala Harris, after Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race, has managed to raise a record-breaking amount of 46.7 million dollars in the first hours.

After Biden’s withdrawal, the Vice President of the United States and presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, has managed to raise around 46.7 million dollars in donations in the first hours of her campaign. This figure makes yesterday “the biggest fundraising day of the 2024 cycle,” according to ActBlue, a fundraising platform for politicians. “Small donors are excited,” they stated on their social media.

The transition of the candidacy

Biden, who had faced criticism from Democratic congressmen in recent weeks, finally decided not to seek re-election, allowing Harris to officially announce her candidacy for the 2024 United States presidential elections. Biden's campaign committee, which included Harris as his running mate, adjusted the documents of the Federal Election Commission to reflect Biden's withdrawal and Harris's promotion as the main candidate.

Challenges and support within the party

Although Harris still needs to secure the necessary support to win the party's nomination, the funds raised by the Biden-Harris campaign, totaling $95.9 million, can continue to be used if she does secure the nomination. However, she has not yet received the support of prominent party figures such as Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, or Barack Obama. Despite this, a large majority of Democratic Party members have already shown their support for Harris.
